When should you seek counseling?
Professional counselors offer the caring, expert assistance that we often need during stressful times in our life. Counselors offer help in addressing many situations that cause emotional stress, including:
Child/adolescent peer issues and academic stressors
Physical/sexual abuse and domestic violence
Career change and job stress
Social and emotional difficulties related to disability and illness
Adapting to life transitions
Loss of a loved one
How can counseling help?
A counselor can help you identify your problems and assist you in finding the best ways to cope with the situation by changing behaviors that contribute to the problem or by finding constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control.
Through counseling you examine the behaviors, thoughts, and feelings that are causing difficulties in your life. You learn effective ways to deal with your problems by building upon personal strengths. A professional counselor will encourage increased awareness in ways that foster your wellbeing and personal growth.
What can I expect on my first visit?
On the day of your first visit, you will want to arrive 10-15 minutes early. Pamlico Counseling does not have a receptionist, so just take a seat in our lobby. Your therapist will come for you at your appointment time. You can take a few minutes and complete the intake forms that are on clipboards found in the lobby.
We are located in the medical district, just a stone's throw from Vidant Regional Medical Center in Washington. Just turn at Tayloe's Hospital Pharmacy and go one block. Turn right onto 11th Street. and we are the second building on the right.
